Space is often at a premium in our homes and our experts at the Cincinnati Home + Garden Show are ready to help you find some lost space in your home. A prime example of this hidden living space is your basement! Often full of junk and holiday decorations just think about the extra living space just hiding down there.

Your basement can be used for all sorts of extra living space: a man cave with wet bar and home theater, a workout room and home gym, mother-in-law suite or even a games room for the kids. Utilizing your basement fully as additional living space can add up to 25% more living space to your home.

Before you begin planning, here are a few tips from Home Improvement Expert, Gary Sullivan:

• Clear the basement space of all non-essential items so you can dream and design how you want to best use the space for you and your family and friends.

• Make sure the area is dry and does not leak. Approach any necessary renovations first.

• Once the project is done and if you have a sump pump in the area make sure it has a backup sump pump for protection.

When you visit the Cincinnati Home & Garden Show, be sure to get started on the right foot by meeting with experts who specialize in water-proofing basements for an assessment before you begin design planning and get more living space out of your home.
