Meet Tyler Wisler
Feb 23, 2019, 17:31 PM
With more than 18 years in the industry, Tyler Wisler has established himself as one of New York’s most influential and dynamic designers with an international clientele. During that time, he has been exciting people with his unique approach to tailoring environments through the integration of vintage industrial elements dovetailed with modern sensibilities. Tyler has been featured on hit shows like HGTV’s Design Star, ABC’s Good Morning America, and NBC’s George to the Rescue.
Q: What do you see as the hottest 2019 design trends?
Tyler: "I’m honestly not the biggest fan of trends in general, but what I am seeing is the design concept of individuality. We aren’t classifying design in one or two words anymore. It really is a fluid mix of styles, cultures, and eras that is making design exciting right now."
Q: Where do you find your inspiration?
Tyler: "I love to pull inspiration from travel. You know when you go on a trip to an exotic place and you kind of dream about that bungalow by the sea or that suite overlooking a city skyline? That’s always something I have as inspiration."
Q: What’s one thing you can do in your home that would have maximum impact?
Tyler: "Lighting! A: Lighting is so important. The simplest thing is to start installing dimmers everywhere you can. When you control the lighting, you control the room."
Q: What’s your advice for choosing a design theme for your home?
Tyler: "A design theme? That in general does not sound good. It’s like planning for a room at a resort where cartoon characters run around. I think you need a basic concept and vision of what your story is and your general style, but a theme can lead you down a road of boring, or it looking too much like a store vignette. Very basic and vanilla, which is fine (shaking my head), but not dynamic."
Q: What are two of your must-haves when you travel and why?
Tyler: " do love bringing along a scented candle for my room to make it smell familiar. Also, I like to pack a small, framed picture for my bedside or anywhere. Small touches can make you feel more at home when you’re not."
Tyler will be sharing more stylish tips and tricks on the Main Stage at the Cincinnati Home & Garden Show this weekend - catch him Saturday, February 23 and Sunday, February 24. His presentations are an absolute must-see, trust us!
